Final Freshman Seminar Post

There are several BAJILLION communities on social media. They all exist on certain websites, forums, pretty much anything that deals with the social media world. I'm a part of all kinds of communities: video games, superhero nerds, otakus (fans of Japanese anime), cosplayers (people who dress up as popular TV characters, whether it's anime or not), bakers, tennis, Hot Topic (they have cool cartoon shirts and buttons), Amazon- there's a lot I'm a part of. Pretty much everyone is associated with multiple communities on social media. We all interact because we share ideas and talk about how much we love a certain topic. We even give out advice to help others. It's fun.

Breaking Bad, Pokemon, and Random Mischief

Where do I begin this final personal blog?? I guess I can go from all the awesomeness to the farewells. Starting off with the good awesomeness. My best friend and brother from another mother, Julian gave me his DSi along with Pokemon White. So over the past few days I've been going down memory lane of Pokemon badassery. On top of that, my other friend Cierra let me borrow Soul Silver. So right now, I'm totes excited. Another thing, Ian and I decided to have a little thing to do every time he comes by. Being all romantical is nice, but it's all about the random things for me. Poking contests, shooting each other with rubber band tommy guns, making dumb faces, and of course, who can't resist a little GTA V? Ian and I also decided to watch something on Netflix since last week. Ever since we've been watching Breaking Bad (even though the show is off air.) We like…dedicated hours (and popcorn) to this show. We're already on season 3. Aside from all of that, I...

Marvel or DC?

The Marvel and DC universes have rivaled the other for decades, each trying to one-up the other with amazing comics and mind-blowing movies. With its more universal audience, bold design, and ability to change, Marvel has blown DC’s calm atmosphere and newly found dark side completely out of the water. While both comic franchises appeal to superhero fans young and old, it’s safe to say that Marvel has appealed to the current state society is in. With controversial changes to some iconic heroes, such as the latest Spiderman being Hispanic and Ms. Marvel now being Muslim, you can clearly tell that Marvel is doing all it can to have heroes of all races. On top of that, one of Marvel’s superheroes, Northstar, has been announced gay in 1992. As gay marriage was legalized in New York in 2011, Northstar made yet another controversial comeback, only this time to be wed. On the contrary, DC has made quite the few changes itself. It not only created heroes that appealed to the minorities, b...

Social Media and it's Impact on Yours Truly

WARNING! (It's like the beginning of some commercial that comes on "after dark" muahaha.) Anyway this is dedicated to my Freshman Seminar class. I learned some pretty interesting things about social media from this class. One, it's a means of self-expression and getting important info out there. Two, it creates a community based on the amount of people who interact with it via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, you name it they use it. Three, it's how employers scout out potential employees by going on there pages. Four, dude, it kinda "dumbs down" a lot of things and has become a staple for teen life. What I learned pretty much impacted on my usage by trying to strengthen the link both my personal identity and my social identity. Some (maybe most) people who use social media use it to find a means to get attention. They post things they wouldn't normally do or say, caption it with an insane amount of hashtags and it manages to generate a ton of feedb...

Finances, Family, and the Delicious Apocalypse

Image
Let's face it you guys, college life is expensive and the need of all kinds of things and making dumb financial decisions are gonna be the end of me. Seriously, it's not cool realizing that every time you open your wallet you literally  get that *POOF* and random speck of dust flying out of your wallet. ...Nor is it great receiving that email that says, "YOU'RE BROKE! LOL! NICE JOB! ;)" (If only banks or online companies said that.) But that's the MAIN focus of this blog- oh, wait, I have a few other things to talk about here, duh, Zoe. Anywho, I have to say for someone who has no money whatsoever, I'm still getting all kinds of things. And doth one do that, exactly? The answer is pretty damn awesome. Try having a gamer for a grandfather. Scratch that. Try having a grandfather who is a gamer AND a tech extraordinaire. Beautiful, right? Oh to any gamer/tech geek out there, that would be the COOLEST person ever. I know. That really cool grandfathe...

Authenticity: True Appearances

A MANIFESTO I am individual and I am tired of watching my fellow humans waste away, living a lie. Everywhere I go, I see those who’ve conformed to such atrocities, wishing for them to snap out of it! But, alas, they cannot hear my voice over the lies fed to them. So here I am, a proud member of the Real Crew, and I have noticed a major flaw with the people in our society. This society is filled with a disease. It’s a disease where people are blindly infringing upon their rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.   They are chained by the false belief of being “one with the crowd.” Symptoms of this disease are as follows: ·       “Fake” authenticity levels ·       Lack in Character ·       Loss of Happiness ·       Denial ·       Overly Insecure ·       Secretive Na...

Halloween Affairs

I believe this is the time of year we've all been waiting for. We go out all dressed in costumes galore. Scary movies/specials are all the rage these days. Haunted houses and corn mazes are designed to give people a scare. Every child is looking forward to the giant stash of candy they hope to accumulate. Adults are looking forward to parties. Man I love Halloween. But I have a problem with it. As much as I love dressing up in costumes, I can't help but see that most women's costumes are slutty. Why. Why make such things? Why make one of my favorite holidays so...I can't even.. I can understand us women looking cute, but...why? It saddens me to see representations of a certain theme I'm interested look so...unattractive? Why ruin and lower my options of dressing up this year? Ladies, what makes you think that most costumes are so revealing? You approve or disagree? Fellas, you guys like seeing women dressed as that? Let's see what both sides have on this...

Adventures as Distractions...

....I just realized that I haven't blogged at ALL. Ugh, the intense struggle of being out and about in the world. Seriously, why does our need for being social get in front of our need to do our work? Man, I'm not even gonna lie, I really think that my brain is melting with all these distractions. From being a girlfriend to being an extremely social butterfly, odds are amazing adventures fly into my life. Last night me and my friend Elaina spent HOURS across the street of Rawls Hall and just spoke to three guys we really didn't even know. (Yeah, that social need kicked in.) It was hilarious and different- we all managed to get along very well. Today...oh today. This has been the biggest distraction/adventure EVER. Ladies, you know your day has just gotten 10x better when you get asked by your friends to go shopping with you. I enjoyed shopping... kinda . I seriously went into stores I NEVER thought I'd see myself in. For the first time, I went into Charlotte Russe...

Relationship Time!

Image
Well, ladies, I do believe that this post will be for you. Fellas, I'm sorry (not really) but I'm gonna go a bit emotional with this one. That's right, I am talking about my view on relationships. Don't worry you're getting a "sneak peek" into mine. Initiate fangirl squeal!! ...Just kidding. But yeah, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and introduce you all to Ian..again. Handsome, isn't he? (That fedora he's wearing is MINE!.) Hmm...what I should I say about him that I already haven't from that one  blog ? I guess I can start off with DUDE, he's such a mystery! Even though he "claims" to be easily figured out. What else? Oh yes, his philosophy with the ladies . He says that he treats women "better than they deserve." (I should know. And for any fella who reads this, good or bad tactic?) That philosophy right there makes a girl feel awesome, then makes one wonder... why make me feel awesome?  (My answer? BECA...

Man of Many Words

It was after we sat in the red and blue Liberty Bowl. Voices were strained; hands were raised, along with the hopes of the Arkansas fans as they wanted a victory. But that was a disappointment my cousin, Bryian Revoner lived with. The vibrant red ASU shirt contrasted with his dark skin and the dreadlocks he had reminded me of a Jamaican Bubbles from Powerpuff Girls. The forty-two year old man had better and more interesting things to discuss than his alma mater losing. From seeing the intense focus he had while typing away on his iPhone, to his political banter over at Logan’s Roadhouse, he sparked a debate wherever he went. Crime rates in Arkansas, to college football, to even finding ways to improve the community, he was a man who brought about revelations and inspiration. It was later that evening when I introduced him to the dark, cool area of the University of Memphis when it clicked that the two of us are more alike than I thought. Abandoned by most of ...
