Social Media and it's Impact on Yours Truly
WARNING! (It's like the beginning of some commercial that comes on "after dark" muahaha.) Anyway this is dedicated to my Freshman Seminar class.
I learned some pretty interesting things about social media from this class. One, it's a means of self-expression and getting important info out there. Two, it creates a community based on the amount of people who interact with it via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, you name it they use it. Three, it's how employers scout out potential employees by going on there pages. Four, dude, it kinda "dumbs down" a lot of things and has become a staple for teen life.
What I learned pretty much impacted on my usage by trying to strengthen the link both my personal identity and my social identity. Some (maybe most) people who use social media use it to find a means to get attention. They post things they wouldn't normally do or say, caption it with an insane amount of hashtags and it manages to generate a ton of feedback from people they probably don't even know. I want everyone who follows me on Twitter, reads this blog, or is my friend on Facebook know that this is exactly how I am. I don't need quote-on-quote "approval" from anyone. And that's something I can kinda grasp with this class. Or maybe it's a giant heaping dose of responsibility…
I'm going to go with responsibility. This class actually is making me more responsible on the internet than I already was. There are professionals who post just about anything on social media and not care about the repercussions. Hold it, there are teens getting into trouble for things they post. Anywho, what I'm saying is that I'm learning how to use social media as a professional. Not just some person.
Last but not least, it impacted me on how everyone can relate to something. Politics or any other touchy or random subjects, it can bring about people from all backgrounds and put all their voices out there. I like this class.
