Finances, Family, and the Delicious Apocalypse
Let's face it you guys, college life is expensive and the need of all kinds of things and making dumb financial decisions are gonna be the end of me. Seriously, it's not cool realizing that every time you open your wallet you literally get that *POOF* and random speck of dust flying out of your wallet.
...Nor is it great receiving that email that says, "YOU'RE BROKE! LOL! NICE JOB! ;)" (If only banks or online companies said that.)
But that's the MAIN focus of this blog- oh, wait, I have a few other things to talk about here, duh, Zoe. Anywho, I have to say for someone who has no money whatsoever, I'm still getting all kinds of things. And doth one do that, exactly? The answer is pretty damn awesome. Try having a gamer for a grandfather. Scratch that. Try having a grandfather who is a gamer AND a tech extraordinaire.
Beautiful, right? Oh to any gamer/tech geek out there, that would be the COOLEST person ever. I know. That really cool grandfather is getting me a PS3 so I have games to play and stop watching Basketball Wives, Tamar and Vince, Keeping Up With the Kardashians- he's saving me from reality TV. (I had a cringe attack just typing the show names.)
Now add on my older brother who's giving me his Xbox 360 once he gets the Xbox One. It's so...beautiful. Wait, there's more, add my parents who send me back to my dorm with leftover food and my GG (grandma) who pretty much gives me the coolest stuff ever.
That is a bin made of magazine pages and clear duct tape. DUCT TAPE. My family is amazing when it comes to helping out so I treasure everything, really.
And now to answer the question everyone probably didn't have: What's the Delicious Apocalypse? Well, glad you asked. It's going to be my new source of revenue- an underground cookie business. (It'll expand to sweets once I get plenty of money..hopefully.) I have an extreme love of baking so I'm going to sell my delicious cookies to all who are interested.
Why's it underground? Uhhhh, because I want to start off small BEFORE getting it into an ACTUAL business (...maybe.) Well, I have several things to ask you guys: One, what's does your family do to keep you afloat? And two, anyone have any business tips? I'm gonna ask some business professors later on but I wanna know what the people think.
No, I won't ask you guys if ya want cookies. You guys can ask me that all on your own.

I will definitely ask for cookies! Dude, that bin is absolutely amazing! I started tearing up from being so proud. Ahh.. the state of brokeness.. It's awful, especially when having to work additional hours just to stay in the black. Business tips? Organization. Hands down. I'd set up an excel speadsheet listing out all of your expenses, revenues, recipes you name it. Being able to open a folder and have all the quantitative ingredients and their associated prices, enables you to easily determine pricing and profits. I'm no business major, or inclined to think like one, but I believe organization is the key to starting one. Back to the topic of family.. going out and spending time with my closest friends and family is what helps me stay above water. Staying cooped up behind a computer and being a restaurant server builds up after awhile... Gotta let loose... Have fun with your newly acquired toys there Zoe!
ReplyDeleteSo i definitely would have pegged you for a gamer and I read this out load to my husband and he is extremely jealous but i would have never pegged you for an extreme baker!! Love that!! And I freaking love cookies…well anything sweet really! That's awesome and I hope that you sell them and people love them!!
ReplyDeleteI too love your mag bin and your cool gamer grandad. I'm clearly not a business prof, but I would echo Matthew's tips and say that creating (and sticking to) a budget is key.
