Friendly...or too Friendly??
This is about knowing the line of being friendly..or realizing that it's time to put a limit on the amount of time I socialize with people I just met.
Today would be a perfect example of that. It's been a few days without my significant other, but I've managed to hang out with most of my closest friends and other colleagues. Tacos were devoured, relaxed after a test, and I took it upon myself to venture to the postal station to retrieve and redeem the notices for my new shoes. (A girl needs them ya know.)
As my boxes were coming to me, I was introduced to guy who just got a mailbox: Mark. He and one of the postal workers loved my Deadpool shirt and from there we talked. Mark is an interesting fellow with a kind personality that mimicked my own. Kinda cool, really. We discussed my buttons, our hobbies, and guitars. Once I received my boxes, I realized I was gonna have a struggle.
He decided to help me. So from the UC all the way to my dorm, we talked. Dropped off my shoes into my room, left, and began a quest for an item I truly lacked: ponytail holders. We let loose our fabulous voices and tales of messing with people as we came across the bookstore for such hair accessories.. None were there. So we ate tacos and walked aaaaaaall the way to Scooties on Walker St.
...Still no ponytail holders, but we did get the employees to order some. I told Mark we should head to CVS or any store down Highland to get some. Luckily, his van was conveniently in the parking lot so I climbed into the messy vehicle and off we went. It was then we discovered we were from California and spoke of how Memphis didn't have the amazing tacos they had.
He took me to the Dollar Tree on Poplar, and laughs were had. We found the ponytail holders, threw some light plastic thing around, found flavored lip balm and purchased those items. If you thought we would come back, then you thought wrong. There was this jewelry store that sold items for a dollar so we couldn't resist.
We browsed and fiddled with the accessories like little kids: making fun of them as we tried them on. I bought several bracelets and a mustache ring-- just for the sake of owning it. Once done, we went back to Scooties and I met his friend Forrest. From there we walked around campus, retrieved my items, and bid farewell to those two.
I have to say later on I realized I spent two whole hours with a guy I just met. On top of that, I went in his car. Yeah, my significant other told me to try not to wander off with people I just met. Sure nothing bad happened but was I too friendly? Hmm.... I don't know. Oh well, I had a blast.

I thoroughly enjoyed this post because I can totally relate! It's hard being in a relationship and being in college. I don't think it matters if you're in the same state or not because there is temptation everywhere and you, sweetie were definitely tempted. But it sounds like you had a fun time getting to know someone, but at the same time if Mark is not going to do it, it's up to you to set the tone of the relationship, so just keep that in mind.(:
ReplyDeleteThanks Nia!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. And I will definitely keep that in mind. (:
DeleteYou're in college, have fun! But I am worried that you hopped in his car...a van no less...(yes, I know, the "mom" can't help it). Your boyfriend must be very confident in your relationship! My green-eyed monster would have probably come out :-)
ReplyDeleteHmm.. yes! Lots of fun! It sounds like you had a blast, and I'm glad to here it :). When I was first starting college way back in the day, I was in a long (LONG) distance relationship. We won't go into too many details there, but Nia's absolutely right. Getting the chance to meet new people is a wonderful experience in college, especially when they have similar interests as you. Too friendly? I don't think so. Just as long as your judgment is clear. If said person was wearing chains and spikes, covered head to toe in explicit tatoos.. I wouldn't get into his or her vehicle.. Then again, I could be mistaken :]
ReplyDeleteYeah, MBK, I know about hopping in this guys car was a bit too far (my mom would've killed me.) And yeah, I'm grateful my significant other didn't get jealous. I think he was just worried. Matt, yeah I am having fun meeting all these people. My judgment was clear and I think you would get into their vehicle haha (:
ReplyDeleteI love reading your post. There's always something interesting and fun going on. I think meeting new people and going out to have fun with them is great! Getting into their vehicle though? Ummmm. Maybe, maybe not. But you had a good time, so what the heck! :))))
